It seems like everyone and their mom, and their grandpa, and their cousin, is getting into birdwatching. "Birding" if you're nasty. The hobby is pretty much as wholesome as they come. It incorporates all of our favorite things: animals, the great outdoors, competition, and sometimes even socializing. It's also one of the most accessible activities a person can get into. Even in the craziest, busiest, and steeliest metropolises, there are birds to be seen in parks and even nesting on towering skyscrapers. Whether you're in the United States or the islands of Oceania, birdwatching is something that you can probably do just by stepping outside your home and looking into the vegetation, or in the sky. The ubiquity of the hobby has led to quite a few in-jokes, many of which can be enjoyed in the many birdwatching meme communities that exist on the world wide web. The memes make clever referential jokes and serve as an outlet for frustration. Most of all, they make us laugh and remind us that literally any hobby or passion can be turned into a source of comedy. And we're so, so happy about that.
